The Isle of Wight Society

Executive Committee Membership

Membership of the Executive committee of the Isle of Wight Society

The Society operates as a watchdog of planning matters Island-wide and comments as applicable.
We work with other organisations, such as CPRE, to encourage good planning.

The Executive are looking for new members of the committee. The Chairman of the Society joined
the Executive in 2012 but the other members have been in post for several years, some for decades!
We feel that we need fresh members to avoid the Society becoming too set in its ways.

We want to see a mix of representation that includes Islanders with a lifetime of experience of living here
as well as some “Overners” who have decided that the Island is a good place to live and can appreciate
fully the advantages of living here.

We also want to see representation from across the Island. At the present the Committee is predominately
from the northern parts of the Island.

Members of the Executive do not need any special qualifications other than membership of the Society and
a desire to maintain the character of the Island as a pleasant place to live with a good quality of life.
However we do like to see a broad spectrum of experience among the Executive members.

If you are at all interested and would like to discuss the matter please get in touch by email at
info@isleofwightsociety or phoning the East Cowes Heritage Centre on 280310
and we shall be glad to answer any questions you may have.
The phone is manned during opening hours and messages can be left out of hours.

The normal procedure is for members of the Executive to be elected at the Society's AGM but
the Executive has the power to co-opt interested members at any time.
